Jan Calogero was born in Catania, Sicily, on August 20th, 1922, of a family of workers of modest means. He lost his father when he was still in one of the lower grades of grade school. While still a boy, he had to earn his living as a manual worker in order to help his mother and his young sisters, but his vocation as a painter soon affirmed itself.

Recommended to the city’s Fine Arts professor, he enters the Catania School of Fine Arts. He sub subsequently exhibited the first time in Sicily and in Rome in 1945.

In 1947, he came to Paris. exhibiting here in 1950 in one of the galleries on Butte of Montmartre. In 1952, he arrived in United States to exhibited his works in New York., an exhibition of his works was held in Los Angeles, California. In the course of his a second trip In 1953 to the United States, Calogero exhibited again in New York and in Los Angeles .

Presently the Artist’s reside in Paris. He has exhibited in one man shows at the Gallery Madsen in 1954, in May 1956, in October 1958 and in 1960. His works can be seen preeminently at the Gallery Robert Philippe.

An important exhibition of his works in was organized for exposition in Tokyo in 1965.
